The game
Same game you grew up with, played at walking pace. One foot stays on the ground, the ball stays below head height, and no tackles from behind or the side. It sounds strange for about four minutes — then it just feels like football again.
Dodgy knees, a new hip, twenty years off the pitch, or never played at all — none of it rules you out. We've got men who have previously played in football teams and also those who've only ever watched from the sofa playing in the same side. Walking football is a great leveller.
01
No running
One foot on the ground, always. The whistle keeps the pace honest.
02
No contact
No tackles, no slides, no shoulder charges. Nobody gets hurt winning this game.
03
Ball stays low
Below head height. No hopeful long balls, no headers to worry about.
04
Sit out whenever
Rolling subs. Take a breather on the sidelines and come straight back on.
Why bother
Sixty minutes of walking, turning, finding space and passing — without it feeling like exercise, because you're too busy having fun.
No sprinting and no contact means far less strain on knees, ankles, hips and hamstrings than the competitive game you gave up.
For plenty of our players this is the social highlight of the week. Mental health, fitness, retirement, redundancy, a house gone quiet — Thursday helps.
Set time, set place, same faces. Far easier to stick to than a gym membership you have to talk yourself into.
Not medical advice. If you're managing a heart condition or a recent injury, have a word with your GP first — then come and see us.
